Is Your Vehicle Window Tint too Dark?
window tint too dark?
window tint too dark?In addition to keeping an eye out for unsafe drivers the City of Savannah is also checking your window tint.
Beginning today and running through the holiday weekend the police will be looking for violators of the window tint law.
In Georgia window tint can be no darker than twenty nine percent and it cannot come down more than six inches on the front windshield. More specifically the front driver and passenger side window of any vehicle can not be tinted and only on SUV’s and pick-up trucks can the back windows be tinted.
“Its for our safety. We need to know when we pull a vehicle over who we are pulling over, who we are going up to, how many people in the vehicle, whether or not these people have weapons and if we cant see inside the vehicle we don’t know that,” explains APO Benjamin Kirksey of Savannah Chatham Metro PD.
If your vehicle is found to be in violation you can be fined up to a thousand dollars and up to twelve months in jail.

Actually, Alice, you’ve got your facts on the GA tint law wrong. On standard cars, front side, rear side and rear glass may be tinted per the following: “It is illegal for window tinting material to be applied to the rear, side and door windows of motor vehicles that does not allow for more than 32 percent of light transmission (plus or minus three percent).“. See GA code on this matter at: http://law.onecle.com/georgia/40/40-8-73.1.html
