The fight to save Troy Davis continues.
A Savannah native, Davis is currently on death row in Georgia.
Davis was convicted of the 1989 killing of Savannah Police Officer Mark MacPhail.
Over the years, many of the witnesses have recanted their stories. Three stays of execution have already been granted.
Gaining national and international attention, Davis’ Sister Martina continues to lead the effort to prove his innocence. Today she and others left Savannah to travel to Atlanta for the “Global Day of Action for Troy Davis.”
“One of the reasons that we are going to Atlanta is because we know a stay of execution date can be set for Troy and the government, the State Attorney General, and the Parole Board would have to intervene so that’s why we are going to send a message to them and to the state of Georgia and the City of Savannah that every body is watching, the world is watching,“ explained Martina Correia, before boarding the bus bound for Atlanta.
Martina says they are still waiting to hear from the U.S Supreme Court in regards to the appeal. She says she won’t stop fighting for her brother’s life.
