S.C. Man Takes Wild Ride into Georgia
Police arrested a South Carolina man early Thursday morning who's accused of kidnapping his girlfriend, stealing a friend's car, eluding police and possessing a firearm.
Richard Wayne Faust, 30, of Summerville, S.C., was caught by police after driving south from South Carolina on I-95 to Camden County. When officers spotted the vehicle at 3:30 a.m. and tried to stop him, he kept going to exit 7, where he then fled into a wooded area. Officers found a .20 gauge shotgun in the vehicle, a stolen white Ford Bronco. The suspect was finally caught and arrested around 6 a.m. nearby.
The following is a description of the chain of events from the Camden County Sheriff's Office:
Faust’s girlfriend went to his house in Summerville, where he assaulted her, shot up the house with the shotgun, then forced her into the trunk of her own car. Faust then drove to the home of a friend, where he left the car and the woman in the trunk, kidnapped the friend and stole his white Bronco as he fled into Georgia. Faust released his second victim in Georgia, and the victim then called Port Wentworth Police. The first kidnap victim left in the trunk of the car was later found.
Faust received minor cuts and scrapes during his flight into the woods, so he was taken to Camden Medical Center for clearance before he was taken to the main jail in Woodbine.
Faust faces charges of bringing stolen property into the state, fleeing and attempting to elude, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He faces numerous additional charges in South Carolina. The Federal Bureau of Investigations is also joining the investigation.
