Actress, Director Debbie Allen Speaks in Savannah

A famous actress, choreographer, and television producer is in Savannah today. Debbie Allen arrived by limo at First African Baptist Church.

That's where she spoke to hundreds as part of the 2008 Beach Institute Lecture Series. Allen discussed the topic of African-Americans and the Middle Passage – the theme of this year's lecture series.

Allen played Lydia Grant in the hit television series "Fame" and directed several TV shows including "A Different World," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-air," and "Family Ties."

In 2001, President Bush appointed her as a member of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
