Actor Tom Berenger To Receive Award At 2009 Beaufort Film Festival

Tom Berenger whose acting career has spanned over 30 years will receive the Beaufort International Film Festival’s highest award at its Awards Gala, Saturday night March 7th.

Tom Berenger whose acting career has spanned over 30 years will receive the Beaufort International Film Festival’s highest award at its Awards Gala, Saturday night March 7th.

Berenger’s acclaimed career has included starring roles in films like The Big Chill, Someone To Watch Over Me, Major League.  He received an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Sgt. Barnes in Platoon, a performance which won him the Golden Globe that year.  Other notable films include Sniper, Shattered, Sliver, and Chasers.  Berenger himself has stated that one of his favorite roles was that of General James Longstreet in the 1993 hit Gettysburg.

Along with his many fine dramatic roles, it should be noted that Berenger was also nominated for an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series” for a guest starring turn he did on the television series Cheers.   

In a 2002 interview Berenger was quoted as saying, “Since the 1970s I’ve seen myself as a poet. Sometimes I express that poetry through acting, sometimes through cooking, and sometimes just having a good chat.“

Berenger has six children, including one son and five daughters.
