Arrest Made in Burton SC Nightclub Shooting
BURTON, SC (January 22/3:30 PM) – A suspect in the January 17th shooting incident at a Burton nightclub has been arrested.
Twenty-seven year old Corey Eleaszer of Walterboro was arrested this afternoon at the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office headquarters after coming to the office to attempt to recover a vehicle seized during the investigation.
Eleaszer was wanted on two counts of Assault and Battery with Intent to Kill, two counts of Discharging a Firearm into a Vehicle, and one count of Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Violent Crime after he was identified by witnesses at last Sunday’s Studio 7 shootings.
The investigation continues as Sheriff’s Office investigators attempt to identify additional suspects believed to have been involved in the gun battle. Witnesses reported that just prior to the shooting, a verbal altercation took place between two groups of men in the club parking lot. Numerous shots were exchanged, with three victims sustaining gunshot wounds.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to work closely with the Walterboro Police Department, the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, and the SC Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to determine if this incident may have been in relation to a series of recent shooting incidents in Walterboro.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with any information to contact either Sgt C. Wilson at 843-470-3213 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
