County Recycling Plan Delayed

Curbside Recycling won’t be coming to Chatham County anytime soon.  The economy weighed in on the commissioners’ decision to delay the program.
At today’s meeting, Commissioners said they don’t want to force a new user fee on taxpayers in the unincorporated area.  The plan would have cost taxpayers about 170 dollars a year.  In addition- Commissioners also had concerns about lack of potential profits from recyclables.
For example, the resale value of an empty coke can or newspapers is not as profitable right now because of the economy.
