Only two days after a Hampton County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured in the line of duty, a second deputy was injured while responding to a domestic dispute in Gifford Friday morning.

Two deputies responded to a criminal domestic violence call around 6:36 a.m. in Gifford on 843 Murdock Street after receving backup from the Gifford Police Chief and an officer with the Varnville Police Department. Once deputies arrived on scene, the CDV call escalated and shots were fired. Both the suspect and one of the deputies were injured during the exchange of gunfire and the injuries are not life threatening. The suspect and deputy are currently being treated at Hampton Regional Medical Center.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is currently investigating the incident and further details will be released as they become available.
