WILMINGTON ISLAND, Ga. - It was a day to celebrate life and a chance for women to learn more about a disease that affects so many Americans—breast cancer.
That was the purpose behind the 2nd Annual Pink Tea at the Wilmington Island Club Sunday.
Women and girls of all ages came out to to enjoy everything from face painting, a silent auction, and of course, tea.
There was even a special pink cake with candles dedicated to cancer victims and survivors.
Amidst all the fun was a serious health message.
“There’s really no screening for women under the age of 40. for example I was 37 when I was diagnosed. We have others who were diagnosed at 28 and you’re just not looking out for it at that age. but the reality is that the numbers are increasing for young women that are developing breast cancer,“ said Jenny Sheppard, one of the event organizers and co-founder of the Young Survival Coalition.
Proceeds from the ticket sales and silent auction benefit a project to make information and assistance kits for newly-diagnosed young women.
