Feb. 9 BHM The Fathers of African Nations
Jamal Toure' shares the story of Savannah's connection to two African nations.
The only king to come out of the American Revolution was an African king. One of the Founding Fathers of Haiti and the only King to come out of the American Revolution, King Henri Christophe was in Savannah as a 14 year old Drummer during the American Revolution. Haiti is the first African Republic in the world. The second African Republic is Liberia in West Africa. Samuel Benedict lived in Savannah during the 1800’s prior to going to Liberia. He would become President of the Liberian Constitutional Convention and formally declare Liberia’s independence.
