HIGGSTON, Ga.—Authorities in Montgomery County seized dozens of pit bulls from a dog-fighting ring.
Investigators raided a property in rural Higgston Tuesday morning.
They were able to rescue about 20 adult and puppy pit bulls. A tip led them to another property nearby, where they found 20 more dogs.
The Atlanta Humane Society and the Georgia SPCA treated the dogs at the scene.
“These puppies are probably two to three weeks old and they’re in poor condition because they can’t get any milk. They can’t nurse because the mothers have no water, no food.“ said Phil Gallacher from Norred & Associates.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said Kenneth Jordan, the owner of the first group of animals, was arrested on charges of cruelty to animals, dog fighting, and trespassing, because they say he does not own the land where he kept the dogs.
Authorities are still looking for the owner of the second group of dogs.
