The son of slain Savannah Police Officer Mark MacPhail talks about the latest efforts to spare Troy Davis’ life. Davis is on Death Row for the 1989 murder.
The NAACP is pressuring District Attorney Larry Chisolm to reopen the case. Mark MacPhail’s family has quietly watched the movement to spare Troy Davis’ life. They have not focused much energy on the protests and rallies because they feel strongly that Davis is responsible for the crime. Today MacPhail’s son talked to News 3 about the NAACP’s push for Chatham County’s District Attorney to reopen the case. We asked Mark, if you could talk to District Attorney Larry Chisolm, what would you say to him. “Kind of, you know, who does he stand up for? Does he stand up for Police? The guys who put their lives on the line every time they wear that badge, uphold our laws, or the criminals who try to break those laws?“, says MacPhail.
There are people all across the country and internationally supporting Troy Davis. Many of these people are strangers. MacPhail Junior says it’s important that people know the whole story. “Just read the facts. The facts speak a lot louder than anyone ever can. A jury of his peers found him guilty over 20 years ago now, and there was evidence…not just circumstantial. It was all there.“ The latest appeal by Davis’ attorneys is supposed to be discussed by the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday. They want the court to allow new evidence. Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm made it clear again today that he will not discuss the case until after the Supreme Court ruling.
