“ We’re going to be taking an engine out of this vehicle right here,“ Jimmy Davis tells me.

We’re in his shop in Brooklet and Davis is big on swapping parts and helping people get by for less.  He says the engine he’s showing me right now will be going into an SUV>

Davis is on his own personal crusade to help his neighbors in these tough times. “I read about it every day, hear about it on the news, see it as you sit down to eat dinner, it’s everywhere,“ he says.

He’s lowered his hourly rate from $65 to $55 and is giving deals on parts and tires.  I ask him why not $45 or $35 dollars if he’s trying to help people?  “Becuase I still have to make a living and keep my lights on,“ he says.  “But $55 is a lot less than $75, or $85 or $95, which is what a lot of places are charging.“

Davis says he has a small place so he’s doesn’t have much overhead.  “A lot of it is the overhead, and the amount of people you have working for you.  You can live comfortably
and make a living and turn the savings back to your customers. It’s savings that everybody needs now,“ says Davis.

Davis’s shop is in the small community of Brooklet, but a lot of people are hearing about his prices and he’s getting customers driving here from other places.  Clay Haynes says he’s come to do business with Davis because he’s going to save about $200 on repairs and tires.
“I looked around all morning and he is the best that we’ve seen and we went all over Statesboro and we can’t find anything better,“ Haynes says.

Another customer, Joey Elrod, says “I’ve been all over looking for tires and he’s about 250 dollars cheaper than anybody else. That’s a lot of money for a poor man,“ he laughs.

“I’m the owner but I still get out and turn the wrenches doing repairs like I always have,“ Davis says and that helps me keep costs down,“ Davis tells me.

He says he’s no saint, he is charging people.  He just says he’s charging them less than they would have to pay elsewhere.  “I don’t want to be the statistic to be out there saying I have to close my doors when I can stay here and live comfortably and help you the next guy who comes down the street,“ says Davis.

If you want to contact Davis, he runs Davis Automotive in Brooklet and the phone number is 912-842-8473.
