Miley Cyrus Movie: 3 Arrested: Request from Officials

Filming of the Miley Cyrus movie, “The Last Song,” on Tybee Island is drawing some big attention.

Three paparazzi were arrested Wednesday for being on private property and violating a secure area.  Tybee Island Police tell me that they told the three not to go in the secure area and warned one of them the day before.  10 minutes after the three were told to stay out of the area, the private security officials called police because they violated orders.  They were arrested after they were already told to move the day before.  All three were charged with obstruction of a police officer and criminal trespassing.  Police say they were each released on $1,300 dollar bond, which was paid via credit card over the phone by the company they work for.

I’ve been following the filming.  Tybee Island police, Chief Jimmy Price, says people will get a warning and that’s it.  After that you’re going to jail.  We saw that yesterday.

While officials know everyone wants to see what’s going on or to try to catch a glimpse of Miley Cyrus, they want to remind folks that they must listen to police, fire and ocean rescue officials.  It’s for their own safety.

“Just bear with us.  Work with us.  Listen to what we’ve got to say.  Sometimes it’s going to be hot in the afternoon and sometimes it may be late in the evening.  Some people will get irritated because they can’t do this, they can’t do that, but at the same time, we’re human too, we get irritated too so work with us.  We’ll try to work with you and we’ll keep everybody happy,” explains Tybee Island Police Chief, Jimmy Price.

”It would help us greatly if you did not come up to the towers (life guard towers) and ask us about Miley Cyrus and those kinds of things because to be quite honest with you, we really don’t know.  We know probably about as much as you know.  The only thing we do know is where things are going on and what time they’re going on and those sorts of things.  The guards have a very difficult job and they need to watch the water and watch the kids in the water, so please avoid from doing that,” asks Tybee Island Ocean Rescue Captain, Michael Taylor.

Things are going to be quite tight on Tybee for the next few days.  The pier will be closed Friday for filming.  600 extras, who were already chosen, will be here on Monday and Tuesday.

Parking will be tight here on the south end tomorrow because movie crews will be using some spots.  Tybee Island mayor, Jason Buelterman, says those spots have been paid for by Disney so the city isn’t losing revenue.  City officials suggest going to north beach if you want to stay out of the commotion.

They tell me that there is still plenty for visitors to do, to see and of course places to eat, so say come on out.

The City of Tybee Island has a page on their website with information about the movie.  Click here for more.
