He’s had memorial services in his hometown, and his military home in Afghanistan.

Wednesday his Naval Academy family got to say goodbye to Captain Matthew Freeman.

Freeman was killed during a firefight in Afghanistan back on August 7th.

A funeral service was held for the Marine Captain a little over a week ago in Richmond Hill.

Wednesday, The US Naval Academy held a memorial of their own for the graduate.

During that service, Freeman’s family were presented his Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for meritorious service.

They also received a flag that flew over Afghanistan the day Captain Freeman died.

From there, a marching procession took family, friends and former colleagues on hand through campus, ending at the columbarium with a ceremonial flyover by Marine C130-J aircraft.

Captain Matthew Freeman was just 29 years old.
