Silver Cheetahs Head to Iowa for Junior Olympics
Members of the Savannah-Chatham Silver Cheetahs and their coaches are headed to the Junior Olympics.
If the cheetah is the swiftest animal on land… and nothing is faster than a silver bullet… what do you get when you combine the two? A group of area athletes known as the “Silver Cheetahs” have earned the reputation for being some of the quickest around. They hope their speed will help them capture the gold in an upcoming national track and field meet.
Fourteen kids, ages 9 to 17 are headed to Iowa to compete against some of the best in the nation. This afternoon, members of the Savannah-Chatham Silver Cheetahs will travel to Des Moines to participate in the 2009 Amateur Athletic Union’s Junior Olympic Games.
The weeklong competition begins this Saturday at Drake University Stadium and wraps up August 8.
The public is invited to the team’s “send-off” at Savannah State this afternoon at 5:30.
