Teen’s Perspective On A Monumental Event
St. Vincent's Student Goes To Inauguration
Emmi Frankum talks about her invitation to the 44th President's inauguration.
Practicing for St. Vincent’s Academy rifle team is a big part of Emmi Frankum’s life. “It’s a lot of practice to keep your stability and concentration,“ says Emmi. Believed to be the number one shooter in the region, the 10th grader targets perfection in her studies and activities. She aimed high and advanced her education while participating in The National Youth Leadership Conference over the summer. “I participated in a lot of different simulations like Model United nations, Model Supreme Court, and Model Congress.“ Now the sharp shooter has been offered a special invitation from the NYLC.
“I’m extremely excited to go up to D.C. and see this monumental day in history, and I feel honored that I can represent not only my school but my city and my state and most of all my country by being there. And this is something I’ll tell my children and my grandchildren about was being able to go to the inauguration of Barack Obama,“ says Emmi. As Emmi sets her eyes on taking a break from the Rifle Team for her trip to the Inauguration she would hit a bull’s eye if she could talk one on one with President- Elect Obama. “I would ask him as a student how plans on furthering and improving my education system because obviously that’s something that’s going to be extremely large in my life, and I think it would be nice to know what he’s planning on doing,“ Emmi said. And just being invited to fellowship with the President-Elect and other students is good enough for Emmi …a moment she and her parents will always cherish.
“If she gets a chance to see the President the new President hopefully she will congratulate him and wish him well. He’s our President and we should all support him,“ says Paul Frankum Emmi’s dad. “I want lots of pictures and I want her to have a great time and enjoy every second,“ says Terry Frankum, Emmi’s mother. Emmi says she could see herself in politics one day because she’s a fighter and she likes to debate.
