U.S. Postal Service Feeling Heat From The Economy.

The recession is taking a bite out of businesses everywhere, and one place we all depend on is eyeing changes because of it.
The U.S. Postal Service says fewer letters and packages are being sent because of the economy.
They’re forced to reevaluate delivery schedules to get the most out of each route and to cut costs.
The flow of work at Post Offices in Savannah-Chatham County is not 100-percent, but they’re holding steady. “Locally we are experiencing a fall decrease in letter mail, but the upside of that is with people doing so much internet catalog shopping we have more parcels now,“ says Customer Relations Coordinator Sandy Moore.
Moore says they’re always evaluating routes to make sure each carrier has 8 hours of work, and they’re not taking the economy for granted.
Moore says locally they have not heard of any layoffs, they have safety nets in place.
For instance, they hire temporary help so that their full time employees won’t be affected so badly.
Thanks to tax season, our local post offices will have plenty of work.
