Vandalized Guyton Church Reopens It’s Doors
Church Reopens after vandals hit
Church Reopens after vandals hitClose to two months ago two teenagers broke in and vandalized three area churches.
Causing thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of damage from broken glass to busted locks to bullet holes in TVs and copy machines. The destruction was extensive.
Police arrested 18 year old Kyle Cundriff and 17 year old Richard West, both from Virginia, for several robberies in Effingham County, and the church break-ins.
While the two teenagers have been behind bars the members of the churches have worked to make good out of such evil acts.
News Three’s Alice Massimi visited one of the churches today as they opened their doors and hearts to forgiveness and a brand new day.
It’s a joyful day at the Living Faith Church of God in Guyton.
Only two months ago this church was torn apart by vandals…
“I was very sad. Understand I wouldn’t just be sad because it was my church this belongs to our community and I was sad anyone would want to hurt this place of worship,” says Tammy Norris who has been a member of this congregation since she was a little girl.
But instead of concentrating on devastation or turning to anger they picked up the pieces, and at the urging of the church’s pastor, the congregation forgave the two teenagers charged with the damage.
“We could have easily let it tear us down and depress us and just say what’s the use but like I said Jesus is our hope and he is the reason we do what we do,” explains Scott Hatten the church’s Youth Pastor.
For seven weeks this congregation has worked hard to repair the damage… and during this Sunday’s service they’re celebrating.
“There is scripture in the Bible, what man intends for evil God intends for good, and we’ve stuck with that and the church has done well,” says a proud Pastor Sean Faircloth.
“We are excited to invite the community to come in, look around and see all the repairs that were done and if they don’t have a home of worship then they are welcome here,” adds a smiling Norris.
A lesson that’s brought this group closer to each other and to God.
The two teenagers charged with vandalizing the Living Faith Church of God along with two others were denied bond and are still being held in the Effingham County Jail.
