South Carolina school and college education programs will lose about 44 million dollars in state funding. This comes under the budget plan the senate finance committee approved this week.
Details of the budget show spending eliminated or cut for young adult education, hydrogen research, computer systems at The Citadel and a College of Charleston science center.
The budget also takes away money South Carolina State University wanted to use to cover overdue maintenance on its buildings.
The committee approved the seven billion dollar spending plan for the fiscal year that begins July 1.
The full senate should take up the budget in about two weeks.
