Applications for the SCCPSS 2009-2010 Pre-Kindergarten Program will be available Monday, February 2, 2009 through Monday, March 16, 2009.
Funding from the Georgia Lottery, pending approval, will provide a limited number of Pre-Kindergarten classes to be held at various SCCPSS sites during the 2009-2010 school year.
Children will be selected through a lottery process, which will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2008 at the Pre-K sites. Parents are invited to attend the lottery at the sites. Parents will receive written notification of acceptance or waiting list status during the week of March 23, 2009. Applications will continue to be accepted after the classes are filled, but they will be placed in a “waiting” folder in the event that openings occur in the Pre-k classes.
Parents of children who will be four years of age prior to or on September 1, 2009 may go to any of the following elementary schools to obtain an application: Bartow, Bloomingdale, East Broad, Haven, Howard, Port Wentworth, Thunderbolt, Woodville, Butler, Ellis, Islands, Heard, Largo-Tibet, Pulaski, White Bluff, J.G. Smith, Isles of Hope, Gadsden, Garden City, Hesse, Low, Pooler, Georgetown, Gould Garrison, Hodge, Marshpoint, Spencer, and Windsor Forest. Savannah High School and Windsor Forest High, as well as the Information desk at 208 Bull Street, will also have applications.
The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System has 61 Georgia Lottery funded Pre-K classes. The Pre-Kindergarten program provides services to all age eligible four year old children residing in Chatham County. The program provides a full day (6.5 hours) of appropriate instructional services to students for 180 days per year.
