SCCPSS Furlough Schedule Released
(Savannah, GA) – Last month, Governor Sonny Perdue announced that state funding to school districts would be reduced by the equivalent of three days of salary for certified staff plus an additional reduction of 3%. That amount added up to more than $5 million for SCCPSS.

Savannah Tech to Furlough Three Days
Add Savannah Technical College to the list of agencies taking mandatory furloughs to cope with the state’s growing budget shortfall. This fall, the institution will close for business and furlough employees three days- September 4, November 25 and December 23.

SCCPSS - Furlough and Bell Times Decisions
The Savannah-Chatham County school board is meeting now. Hot topics being discussed include furlough days (days off without pay) and a new 4-tier bell system that would cut transportation costs. The furlough days have been decided and bell times are now being discussed.

Superintendent Lockamy’s Contract Extended: No Raises
Dr. Thomas Lockamy’s contract was extended for another year, giving him 3 more years with the district. He won’t be taking a raise.
SCCPSS Board Discusses School Changes
Back in the winter, the school board voted on which schools in the district would be neighborhood schools, specialty schools and which would be converted to be K-8, K-3 / 4-8. Board members get the quarterly update on the “Passport to Excellence” plan.
Bryan County Schools Furlough Dates
Governor Purdue asked school districts across the state to implement 3 furlough days for teachers by the end of the year in an effort to save money. Several districts in the Atlanta area found ways around unpaid days off for teachers, but Coastal Empire districts have not. Groundbreaking on New Richmond Hill Middle School
Bryan County continues to grow. The population is up to 30,000 now. With the growth comes the need for new homes and new, bigger schools.
