Senate Passes Troop Pay Raise

CAPITOL HILL (AP) - The Senate has passed a revised defense
policy bill authorizing a 3.5 percent pay raise for troops.

Commander of Guantanamo Bay Visits Savannah

It's one of the military's most controversial prisons, Guantanamo Bay.
It allegedly holds the perpetrators of 9-11 and the USS Cole bombing, men the US Government feels are capable of heinous crimes. But some human rights organizations say many of the men are being held there unjustly. 
Tonight News Three's Military Reporter Alice Massimi was there as the Commander of Guantanamo Bay spoke with the Savannah Navy League.

3rd ID Death was First in New Armored Vehicle

Richard Burress, based out of Fort Stewart, was killed Saturday when an IED struck his vehicle. This casualty was the first to happen inside of an MRAP, or mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicle.

3rd ID Air strikes take out extremist training area

FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – Operation Marne Thunderbolt continued relentless pursuit of the enemy by attacking extremists operating south of Baghdad. On Jan. 16, 10,000 pounds of munitions were dropped on bunkers in Arab Jabour used by al-Qaeda in Iraq as training sites for new recruits.

HONOLULU (AP) - The Army says it will court-martial a Hawaii-based soldier for premeditated murder in the killing of an unarmed Iraqi last summer.

Navy - Iran Speedboat Confrontation

3rd ID soldier killed in Iraq

Pfc. Joshua R. Anderson, 24, of Jordan, Minn., died Jan. 2 in Kamasia, Iraq. He was a combat medic who joined the Army in March 2006.

Today the Department of Defense announced the death of 24-year-old Pfc. Joshua R. Anderson of Jordan, Minnesota. He was assigned to a unit based out of Fort Stewart.
