Raising Cancer Awareness with Poker Run on Tybee

Raising awareness for early cancer screenings can be as easy as hopping on your bike.

The Joyce Harrison Cancer Awareness Foundation is putting on its third annual poker run in honor of the foundation’s namesake.

Participants will ride from business to business, beginning at Doc’s Bar, getting cards, traveling to Sting Ray’s, Cousin Vinnie’s and The Quarter, ending at Huc a Poos for an oyster roast and live music.

The mission of the ride is to remind everybody about early cancer screenings and detection.

“We want people to know that just because you don’t have insurance, it doesn’t mean there’s not help out there.  There’s plenty of programs.  It’s just getting the word out and that’s what we hope to do is to tell people get screened; men and women.  Everybody needs to take care of themselves.  Be proactive and know that when you need it, there’s help.  All you have to do is ask.,” explains Beth Martin, one of the organizers of the event.

The poker run will be held on Sunday, November 15th, beginning at noon.  The oyster roast will begin at 5:30 at Huc a Poos.
