Authorities say an 89-year-old woman has been struck and killed by a car in Sumter.

Police say family members told them Annie Smalls Evans had trouble seeing and hearing. They say she appeared to step in front of the Mitsubishi Eclipse on Tuesday without seeing it.

Authorities say Evans was trying to get back to her home when she was struck. She died about an hour later at the hospital.

Police say the driver of the car likely will not be charged.
