GA may decline part of stimulus package

ATLANTA (AP) - Gov. Sonny Perdue says Georgia may turn down part of the federal economic stimulus money because it might not be in the state’s best interest to accept it.
   
Perdue says his office is reviewing the funding requirements about accepting the billions of dollars in federal aid Georgia expects to get.
   
He told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution during an interview at the National Governors Association meeting in Washington that officials need to determine what’s in the best long-term interest of the state.
   
He said Sunday he’s concerned about accepting money for Georgia’s unemployment insurance because it could cost the state more in the future.

Southern Republican governors from states including South Carolina, Louisiana and Mississippi have said they may reject part of the money.
