Road Closures Announced as Trees Move Into Ellis Square

Redevelopment of Ellis Square has been a much anticipated activity for residents, businesses, and visitors to the area. City Council approved the $2.3M contract to build the square, which will consist of hardscape and softscape, hospitality center, interactive water feature, site furniture, and of course, Live Oak trees.
Many of you noticed the infill of dirt on top of the recently opened Whitaker Street Parking Garage. Next, efforts to move 5 trees into the square will begin on Monday, April 20, 2009. The trees are currently located near the Truman Parkway. A professional tree mover will carefully transport the trees from a location off the Truman Parkway to the square.
Please note the following street and parking closures on the following dates and given locations; weather permitting:
- Monday, April 27th: no parking on W. Congress between Whitaker and Jefferson Streets, and Barnard between W. Bryan and W. Congress Lane, in preparation for street closure. NOTE: These streets will be open to thru traffic on Monday.
- Tuesday, April 28th: - Wednesday, April 29th: W. Congress St. closed between Whitaker & Jefferson, Barnard closed between W. Bryan & W. Congress Lane; 5 a.m. Tuesday to 5 p.m. Wednesday.
- Thursday, April 30th: W. Bryan St between Whitaker and Jefferson will be closed, and Barnard at Bay will be closed to thru traffic; 5 a.m.- 3 p.m.
