Countdown To Digital: DTV Explainer
DTV Explainer
DTV ExplainerIt’s called the DTV transition…or the digital television transition.
Right now, WSAV actually broadcasts two different signals: one in analog and one in digital.
A few years ago, Congress mandated that all full-power television stations (like WSAV) broadcast in 100 percent digital starting on Feburary 17, 2009. That means, on that day, our analog signal has to go away. The point of all this is to free up some of the nation’s airwaves for use by emergency responders.
Our digital signal has been up for more than 6 years but chances are, unless you’re up on your TV technology, you might not know which of our signals you’re watching.
That’s why we’re going to shut down our analog transmitter for one minute tonight during News 3 at 6.
If you aren’t digital-ready, you’re going to see snow. If you are ready for the transition, you’ll be just fine come February.
