Time is up on the government’s Cash For Clunkers program. 

The Cash for Clunkers program is ending Monday night, even after an extra two billion dollars was awarded about two weeks ago.  More cars have been sold, but dealers are still waiting to see a financial reward on their end.

WASHINGTON (AP) — General Motors and Chrysler executives defended the closings of hundreds of dealerships Friday as House lawmakers questioned whether the decisions would save any money or help the troubled companies rebound.

The “cash for clunkers” bill, which passed the House 298 to 119, would give consumers instant vouchers of up to $4,500 when they turn in older, gas guzzling vehicles and buy new, more fuel-efficient ones.

There are signs that car sales are bouncing back but not for new cars.

Car shoppers are finding good deals at Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge dealerships. NBC’s Kevin Riggs reports.
