The Humane Society is in need of blankets and towels for the animals. They don’t have to be new, just clean. And no comforters or things with stuffing please, because the animals just tear those apart. Folks can just drop them off.  Please Help! Anything you can give will be appreciated.

Savannah woman has been given a $5,000 bond after being arrested Wednesday on two counts of felony animal cruelty.

Police said they have arrested a Savannah woman after authorities found two small dogs dead in her home.

Thousands of abandoned animals are, essentially, behind bars needing loving homes.
Helping them are their human counterparts, also behind bars.

In front of a standing-room-only crowd, members of the Screven County County Commission unanimously agreed Tuesday to begin building a new animal shelter.

Why did the duck cross the road?  To get to the other side, of course.  But the road has to be safe to cross first.  Some fifth graders at Marshpoint Elementary School have been concerned about ducks that live in a pond near their school.  After working on it for months, they managed to convince the county to put up a “duck crossing sign” Tuesday

Some dogs do more than serve as pets…they actually work to provide important services to others.  Those dogs include seeing eye dogs, search and rescue dogs, and police k-9 among others.  This week the American Veterinary Medical Association is giving back to them with free eye exams.

Ronin, a 14-week-old black Labrador Retriever, who was missing in Savannah, has been found.

The shelter is participating in a contest sponsored by Zootoo, hoping to raise awareness for needy animals and increase adoptions.

Hilton Head has had a law on the books for nearly 25 years allowing dog owners to let their pets roam freely along the beaches for most of the year, as long as they’re under control.  That could soon change.
