Summer Isn’t Over Yet
I enjoy all four seasons, and I especially enjoy when it first begins to change.
But there’s one thing I am not ready to give up just yet…and that’s the farmers market at Forsyth Park in Savannah.
The Forsyth Farmer’s Market is held every Saturday until November 21st from 9a.m. to 1p.m. at the south end of Forsyth Park. It’s here where you can buy fresh, regionally grown food and food products sold by the farmers. And it happens rain or shine!!!
Many items are picked only hours before they are sold. Some shoppers say there’s no comparison to the freshness and taste.
Even the experts agree.
Buying freshly grown grub is better for your health and for the environment. Studies have shown that locally grown foods are richer in nutrients because the fruits and vegetables are usually picked when ripened, at the peak of their seasons.
Also, some say the U.S. system for packaging and transporting goods to the local grocery store chains is highly inefficient. The process for packaging and marketing food can waste valuable energy and resources, and fuel-burning semi-trailer trucks can travel as many as 1,000 miles before reaching their destinations.
So with that in mind, you might want to check out the Forsyth Farmers Market this Saturday. And if you see me there, be sure to say hello!
