MAN TO MAN: Prostate Cancer Patients and Survivors Support One Another
Men do not need to face prostate cancer alone. John Richardson, a prostate cancer survivor living in Savannah, was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to attend a support group while he was going through cancer treatment in Florida. “I found that it was very encouraging to talk with other patients, as well as former patients, prospective patients and medical professionals,” says Richardson. In June 2008, with Richardson’s vision, the Man to Man support group began in Savannah, Georgia.

The American Cancer Society’s Man to Man program is an educational and support forum for men and their spouses to learn about topics related to prostate cancer diagnosis, treatment and management. Man to Man provides a comfortable and confidential setting among peers to openly discuss and share common experiences and problems.

Man to Man meets the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm at St. Joseph’s/Candler Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion. In honor of Prostate Cancer Awareness month, on Wednesday, September 9, John Coursey, MD from Urology Specials of Coastal Georgia will be speaking to the group about advances in prostate cancer screening and treatments.

Prostate cancer patients, survivors and caregivers are welcome to join us. For more information, please contact your local American Cancer Society office at 912.355.5196.

Johnny Mercer Centennial
Throughout 2009 Savannah honors one of this southern city’s most respected and famous native sons. The City of
Savannah’s Johnny Mercer Centennial Committee serves as a grassroots umbrella resource for all things Johnny Mercer
during Savannah’s celebratory year. Through local and international cultural and educational events, centennial activities not only honor and celebrate Johnny Mercer’s inspirations and legacy, but encourage new generations to seek grand achievements through his “Ac-cent-tchu-ate The Positive” optimism and Huckleberry Friend persona.
