Ga. Southern loses at App. St.
Appalachian State wins sixth straight, beats Georgia Southern
BOONE, N.C. (AP) - Kellen Brand scored 20 points, Donald Sims
added 19 and Appalachian State pulled away in the second half for
its sixth straight win, 88 to 81 over Georgia Southern today.
Sims hit two three-pointers in an 18 to 6 run early in the
second half that broke a tie and put the Mountaineers (11-6, 6-2
Southern Conference) ahead to stay.
Simms, who scored a career-high 28 points in Thursday's win over
Chattanooga, hit five of Appalachian State's 13 three-pointers.
Donte Minter added 16 points and 13 rebounds and Jeremy Clayton had
15 points for the Mountaineers, who shot 51 percent.
Louis Graham had 22 points and eleven rebounds, Willie Powers
scored 16 points and Dwayne Foreman had 15 for Georgia Southern
(12-6, 5-3), which had its three-game winning streak snapped.
The Eagles, who beat the Mountaineers at home in December, made
just 12 of 19 free throws. Appalachian State was 17 of 32 from the
line.
