27 American crews to race at Henley Royal Regatta

HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England (AP) — Twenty-seven American crews will compete in the 160th edition of the Henley Royal Regatta.

The five-day event starts Wednesday and will feature a Chinese entry for the first time plus eight gold medalist from the Beijing Olympics among the 468 boats from 15 countries.

Fourteen American crews will compete Wednesday on the river Thames.

Trinity College from Hartford, Conn., will race a crew from Twickenham in the Thames Cup for club eights. Also, the Green Lake Crew from Seattle will face English club Agecroft.

An all-American clash features Brown University against Worcester Polytechnic Institute for the Temple Cup. Other teams include Princeton against Bristol University, England, and Kent School from Connecticut against Edinburgh University.

In the Prince Albert Cup for student coxed fours, Worcester Polytechnic Institute will race Reading University, England. Yale University is up against Durham University, England.

The New York Athletic Club has a tough task in the opening round against local favorites Henley Rowing Club in the Wyfold Cup for coxless fours.
