The Savannah State University athletics department is deeply saddened by the tragic news involving one of our former student-athletes, Mr. Javorris Jackson. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this time.
Jackson, 28, finished the 2008 season second in tackles and interceptions. He played for SSU for two season after battling back from several gunshot wounds suffered July 20, 2002. According to reports, Jackson was an innocent bystander. According to the Savannah Morning News Jackson had a bullet lodged in his shoulder blade behind his heart and another an inch from his spine. He needed several blood transfusions during a seven-hour surgery.
His brother, Grady Jackson, is a defensive lineman for the Detroit Lions.

This is a terrible tradgedy and my thoughts and prayers are with both families. I know JJ and in my heart believe he is innocent. There has got to be more to this story than what is being said, JJ would never hurt anyone nore himself. When JJ is found innocent I hope the real murders are caght and put away for life for what they did to these families.
I am extremely discussed at this coverage. A young lady has her life taken and you are talking about his stats. She was graduating with her M.A. in Human Resource this week. She planned a trip to Italy this month. She leaves behind a brother, mother and father and you are talking about the fact that he could catch a ball. The world is very cruel if you are worried about is there is one less football player. I knew her and I will miss her. Posting this as a 36 year Detroiter who will retire in Savannah, a graduate of Savannah High and Armstrong State.
