Coastal Flood Watch in effect Late This Afternoon and Evening
The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood watch… which is in effect from 6 pm edt this evening through the middle to late evening for the following counties:
coastal Bryan- coastal Chatham- coastal Liberty- coastal Mcintosh- Beaufort- coastal colleton- coastal jasper-
Unusually high astronomical spring tides will continue to produce elevated tides across south coastal South Carolina and north coastal Georgia today. Tide levels are expected to peak between 9.7 to 10.0 ft mean lower low water at the savannah river entrance with this evenings high tide. These levels typically produce significant coastal flooding along the beaches… sounds.. marshes and nearby rivers.
Near Tybee Island… water may flood portions of highway 80… making it impassible.
Other locations particularly vulnerable to coastal flooding include but are not limited to Edisto Beach… Hunting Island… Fripp Island… Saint Catherines Island… Rabbit Hill.. Halfmoon Landing and Sapelo Island.
High tide will occur around 946 pm in the beaufort river at beaufort and 837 pm at the savannah river entrance.

A coastal flood watch means that coastal flooding is possible. Residents and visitors in coastal areas should be prepared to protect property if warnings are issued.
