Flash Flood Watch in Effect Tonight
The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a FLASH FLOOD WATCH for the following areas: Jenkins, Screven, Candler, Bulloch, Effingham, Tattnall, Evans, Bryan, Chatham, Long, Liberty, McIntosh, Allendale, Hampton, Colleton, Jasper and Beaufort.
Numerous to widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across much of the region this afternoon and evening as a weak frontal boundary remains stationary across far southern South Carolina.
Much of the region, particularly parts of southeast Georgia, have already received between 2 and 5 inches of rain over the past two days. An additional 1 to 3 inches are possible this afternoon through this evening with locally higher amounts. The combination of heavy rainfall and saturated grounds will enhance the risk for flash flooding through late this evening.
The risk for flash flooding will be greatest in low lying and poor drainage areas. The risk for flash flooding may become enhanced in downtown Savannah, Beaufort and other coastal communities near times of high tide. High tide for the Savannah River entrance is at 9:50p.m.
Rises along area rivers can also be expected, although river flooding is not expected to occur on any area rivers at this time.
