Frost and Freeze Advisories in Effect for Most of the Area Tonight

The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory… which is in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am est Saturday… for the following counties:

Tattnall- Evans- inland Bryan- inland Chatham- Long- inland Liberty- Beaufort- coastal Colleton-coastal Jasper.

Including the cities of… Reidsville… Claxton… Pembroke… Savannah… Ludowici… Hinesville… Beaufort… Hilton head… Edisto Beach.

The combination of clear skies and diminishing winds will allow temperatures to drop into the mid 30s away from the coast tonight. This will allow for scattered areas of frost to develop away from the coast prior to sunrise Saturday. The risk for scattered frost will be greatest west of highway 17 in southeast South Carolina and west of interstate 95 in southeast Georgia. This includes communities such as Hardeeville… Bloomingdale… Claxton… Reidsville… Ludowici and Hinesville.

In addition… the National Weather Service has issued freeze watches and warnings… which are in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am est
Saturday…. for the following counties:

Jenkins- Screven- Allendale- Hampton-inland Colleton- Candler- Bulloch- Effingham- inland Jasper.

Including the cities of… Metter… Statesboro… Springfield… Ridgeland… Millen… Sylvania… Allendale… Hampton… Walterboro.

The combination of clear skies and diminishing winds will allow temperatures to drop to near freezing across parts of Candler… Bulloch… Effingham and inland Jasper counties tonight. While some uncertainty exists on the extent and duration of potential freezing temperatures… lows in the lower to mid 30s will allow for scattered areas of frost to develop prior to sunrise Saturday. Should the risk for freezing temperatures increase… then a freeze warning will be issued later today.

The risk for freezing temperatures will be greatest along and north of a line from Scarboro to Sylvania in southeast Georgia and from Crocketville to Ridgeville and Jamestown in southeast South Carolina. This includes the communities of Millen…Sylvania and Walterboro. Expect freezing temperatures for 3 to 5 hours across much of the freeze warning area. In addition…scattered to widespread frost can be expected.
