A heat advisory is in effect for Jenkins, Screven, Candler, Bulloch, Effingham, Tattnall, Evans, Bryan, Chatham, Long, Liberty, Mcintosh, Coffee, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling, Wayne, Atkinson, Ware, Pierce, Brantley, Washington, Johnson, Emanuel, Laurens, Treutlen, Webster, Wilcox, Dodge, Telfair,Wheeler, Montgomery, Toombs and Glynn Counties in Georgia as well as for Allendale, Hampton, Colleton, Dorchester, Berkeley, Jasper, and Beaufort Counties in South Carolina from 11 am to 8 pm Sunday.

Hot and humid airmass will persist into Sunday. High temperatures in the mid to upper 90s…combined with moderate humidity levels…will produce heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees across the region. The highest heat indices will once again occur between 2 pm and 6 pm on Sunday. Slightly cooler conditions can be expected at the beaches…although heat indices of 100 to 105 degrees will still occur.

A heat advisory means that a period of very hot temperatures can be expected. The combination of heat and humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Residents and visitors are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids…stay out of the sunshine…check up on the elderly and stay in an air conditioned location if possible.
