Heat Advisory is in effect until 8p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a HEAT ADVISORY for the following counties:  Candler, Bulloch, Effingham, Bryan, Chatham, Jasper, Beaufort, Coastal Jasper, Tattnall, Evans, Long, Liberty and McIntosh.

A hot and humid airmass will persist over the area late this afternoon.  High temperatures in the mid to upper 90s combined with moderate humidity levels will produce heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees across portions of the area.  Heat index values are expected to drop below 105 shortly after sunset.

A Heat Advisory means that a period of very hot temperatures can be expected.  The combination of heat and humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.  Residents and visitors are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids…stay out of the sunshine…check up on the elderly and stay in the air conditioned location if possible.

Be on the look out for signs of heat-related illnesses.  Common early signs on the onset of a heat-related illness include headache, muscle cramps and unusual fatigue.
