A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for northern Beaufort, extreme southwestern Charleston, southern Colleton, extreme southeastern Hampton, and east central Jasper Counties until 5:00 pm.

At 4:27 pm national weather service doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing penny size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.  These storms were located along a line extending from Pocotaligo to 10 miles south of Old House, or along a line extending from 6 miles south of Yemassee to 11 miles northwest of Hilton Head Island moving northeast at 55 mph.

A tornado watch is also in effect.  Severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes suddenly, sometimes with little or no warning.  If you see or hear a tornado move quickly to an interior room in a sturdy structure.
