Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 9pm this evening
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for portions of southeast Georgia and eastern South Carolina effective until 900 pm this evening.
Hail to 2 inches in diameter… thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph…and dangerous lightning are possible.
This watch includes all of the coastal empire and low country north of the Altamaha River and east of a line from Tattnall… Candler… and Jenkins counties. It includes the metro Savannah…. Beaufort… Hinesville and Statesboro areas.
Remember…a severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally
do produce tornadoes.

This afternoon… thunderstorms are increasing over coastal South Carolina… and additional storms are likely to develop near a front extending across the southeast coastal states. Air mass is very moist with surface dew points in the low to mid 70s… and with temperatures nearing or exceeding 90 instability is rapidly increasing. Moderate upper level winds will promote development of organized storms with the strong storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail.
