Heavy rains impacted the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry on Friday afternoon 2-5.  Here is some video shot right outside the station on Victory Drive.

A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 11p.m. for both Beaufort and coastal Colleton Counties.

The heaviest rain is gone, the storm system is moving out, but it could take some time to see our skies clear.

1.5 to 3.5 inches of rain with isolated 4 inch rain totals possible through this evening.

Well, this is a time appropriate topic.  Our area is facing a big rain event that will start tonight and last through Friday night.

Flash floods and floods are additional hazards associated with thunderstorms.

A flood watch is in effect from Thursday evening through Friday evening for much of central and southern Georgia.  A low pressure system is forecast to move into the area and could produce widespread rainfall amounts of 2-3 inches…

A number of area rivers remain above flood stage due to heavy rains throughout December and January.  Although many of the rivers are falling, it will take some time before they all drop back below flood stage…

This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia, and today’s topic is Severe Thunderstorm Safety.

In Georgia, the biggest threats from severe thunderstorms are damaging straight line winds and large hail.
