»  Comments | Post a Comment

Attorneys representing death row inmate Troy Davis went before the 11-th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. They asked the panel to let them file another appeal of the death row inmate's sentence.

Davis is facing execution for the 1989 murder of Savannah police officer Mark Macphail.

Kaitlyn Pratt was on special assignment for News three in Atlanta.. She brings you up to date on today's hearing.

The court hearing lasted for just over an hour this afternoon. The federal appeals court hearing arguments from both sides in the Troy Davis case.

The three-judge panel gave no timetable on when the federal appeals court will make its decision.

His attorneys want a new trial based on what's called a "stand alone" innocence claim. They say his conviction is based on a case of mistaken identity.

The federal court must decide whether the case meets the "high standard" for a court hearing in which Davis' attorneys could present new evidence and whether he could get a new trial.

We spoke to Marc Macphail's mother and the sister of Troy Davis, Martina Correia. Look for their reaction tonight on news three on your side at 11.
