Dixie Crystals sugar may be short on Piggly Wiggly shelves, but the company and customers are doing their part to help the Imperial Sugar Refinery family.
The company donated $10,000 to open the "Sugar Refinery Family Support Fund." and now customers can and are donating when they pay for their groceries.
All you have to do is tell the cashier how much you want to donate to the fund when you're at the check out.
“Our hearts go out to the Port Wentworth community and particularly those families directly affected by Thursday’s disaster,” said David Schools, Piggly Wiggly CEO. “We know what kind of effect something of this magnitude can have on a community and we want to do what we can to help our friends and neighbors during this time of need.”
100 % of the money collected will be distributed to the affected families through the United Way of the Coastal Empire. Donations will be collected until March 17th.
Piggly Wiggly operates 10 stores in the Savannah area.
