Two buses, filled with Troy Davis supporters, left Savannah for Atlanta Thursday afternoon. That's where a rally protesting Davis' execution began at 6pm.
Davis was sentenced to death for the 1989 murder of Savannah Police Officer Mark MacPhail. Those from Savannah at the rally are among thousands expected to attend. Davis' sister rode on one of the buses headed there.
"We are rallying for justice and we're standing firm that we're asking the Georgia Supreme Court to intervene, the parole board to either grant him clemency, or the governor to step in because this is absolutely ridiculous what's happening here," says Davis’ sister Martina Correia.
Attorneys for Davis have asked the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to stay Monday's execution so they can file a new round of appeals.
