(Bulloch, County, GA.) If you dream it you can achieve it. Just ask Morris Prince.
"I wasn't old enough to drive so I had to ride on the fender of the tractor with my daddy, and I had all intentions that what I wanted to be when I grow up was a farmer."
With determination and fatherly guidance Morris turns bare land into financial rewards.
"I enjoy the cotton. We plant cotton, peanuts, corn, wheat. I really enjoy picking cotton better than I do any other crop."
Morris is an example of what can be accomplished with some serious hard work and inspiration.
so how do you know when the crop is ready?
Morris junior gets a kick out of demonstrating.
"There's a seed right there and before we start picking in the morning time we bite down on it and if its got a little crunch to it it's ready to go. That's what my daddy always taught me."
Row by row Morris plows through the field on this giant cotton picker.
This time of year team Morris is here from sunrise to sunset 7 days a week. They look forward to the only break - lunch- served up by his wife jean.
"We don't have to go get lunch or nothing. She always bring us lunch to the field."
Energized, he nurtures his crop with a close eye against the force of nature.
"It's 5 or 6 months now without rain. I mean you're liable to get a drop here and 2 or 3 miles down the road you don't get no rain."
Morris doesn't sweat the small stuff though. A weather setback is his stepping stone. That's the seed his father planted.
"He said if you like to farm one thing you're gonna have to do is pay your bills. He say if you pay your bills the bank will let you get some more money to farm another year."
Investing his life and ambitions into farming recently put Morris in the spotlight.
This month his family was named the 2011 Bulloch County farm family of the year.
"It was just a shock. I didn't think we would ever win anything like that. Never did cross my mind really. I'm tickled to death with it yep. I really am."
Morris gives his father all the credit for his success.
He hopes to expand his business in the future.
He told me his son loves football, but so far he's following in his footsteps.
