(Statesboro, GA)At times our light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person.
In Statesboro that spark comes from a group of churches that formed the open hearts community mission.
Priority number one, open doors for people who have nowhere to sleep.
"My being involved in different volunteer areas like your church you will see the need walking in your many times a week," says Delia Mobley.
The desire to help meet the need of those homeless in Statesboro is growing.
"While we are looking for a shelter we are meeting the need now by putting folks up in motel rooms and getting them off the streets."
Open Hearts Community Mission found new hope for this family.
grandmother, mom, and baby have a place to stay.
Caring people donated furniture and groceries.
Robin Ledbetter volunteered to help the family move in.
"When you see anybody needing help it's hard to go home to our own home at night and sleep knowing there's somebody out there that may need help."
Doing his best to serve the community Keith Brinson takes pride in assembling the baby crib.
Helping homeless families rebuild their lives brings him joy.
"It is a true blessing to be able to reach my hand out and touch somebody's heart you know, and to give them what they need if it is just to get them by you know for a day or 2 a week or 3 weeks. There's just no better feeling than to do what is placed in your heart to do."
In this network of support are big plans to help others get back on their feet.
"We are aiming to have a 40 bed facility and it will be operational 365 days a year. We will serve 2 meals a day in that. There will be no charge for any of our services. We will have counseling services on site and folks to coach for job training," says Delia.
For this family it's peace of mind knowing they have a place to call home.
This is what you call a wonderful expression of giving.
"How does it feel to be able to help so many people in need? You know what I wish I could bottle it up and sell it. It gives me chills to think about all the wonderful things I've experienced in doing this. When I put my head down on my pillow at night and I think about all those people in that motel and they are not on the street it's a good feeling."
So far, open hearts community mission has helped put up 25 adults and 6 children in a motel.
They screen people they're helping, plus they must be willing to look for a job.
The organization sure could use your support.
They're in need of volunteers, food, clothes, and furniture.
