(Statesboro, GA.) Hope you're hungry when you come to Sugar Magnolia.  Co-Owner Steve Jones is from California, and he grew up on bread from the bakery.  Seven years ago, he came up with the idea to open Sugar Magnolia in Statesboro.
“The bakery market has changed so much in this country.  A lot of it's done in supermarkets and Walmarts and stuff."
At Sugar Magnolia, your eyes will lead you to a plethora of sweet and savory foods.
"We do the whole range, from breads and pastries and cakes, and we try to do a good job."
Best of all the recipes.
"We're very proud to be a from-scratch bakery, independently owned. Everything you see is made right back there. We aren't bringing anything in frozen."
"Baking is kind of my passion."
Molly House soaked up baking like a sponge.  She worked her way here from Ogeechee Tech.
"That's been my goal to work somewhere where everything is made from scratch, and we use a lot of great ingredients and everything is organic."
This scratch food brings Martin Laws back again and again.  It's a favorite spot for him.
"Honestly, the fun thing for me is the actual bread.  I'll actually get a tuna salad and an extra roll because the bread is just amazing. I spent some time in Europe, and the bread here, if not comparable… better, which is amazing."
Steve hopes getting a taste of sugar magnolia will leave you with a positive and lasting impression.
"I want them to feel welcomed, comfortable, like they had a good food experience where it's real tangible food they're putting in their mouth.  They can see what it is.  The taste is there.  The quality is there. We also use a lot of local farmers and try to get as much local ingredients in our food as we can."
A simple, down-home place mixed with quality and inspiration.
"It's that magic of connecting with people on a real food level that kind of keeps me going and getting up every morning."
Sugar magnolia is now offering pizza two nights a week and brunch on Saturday and Sundays.
If you want to give it a try, Sugar Magnolia is at 106C Savannah Avenue in Statesboro.
