Old Timers Get a League of Their Own

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The calendar may say it is nearly Christmas, but the most wonderful time of the years is still a few months away for players in the Savannah Adult Baseball League. Getting to practice all December has been a present for the players, who are looking forward to next year when the league adds a 35+ division as well as a division for players who are 23 and over. Dr. Randy Bottner, a local cardiologist who plays in the league, says “I think its going to be great I think. I think a lot of older guys are going to come out and start playing the game again when they are not so intimidated by the younger guys who are really good players. It will be a lot of fun. It will be competitive, but it will be a lot of fun, too. Ten teams competed in the league last year. One of the highlights came when the league’s all-stars provided the fireworks on the field for the out of town Sand Gnats July 3rd in front of more than three thousand fans. There are no big money players—players pay minimal amount to play. There are some big names though like Congressman Jack Kingston, who is looking forward to playing in the 35 and over division next season, “There's only one thing you can focus on and that's this little white ball and you get your mind off all your troubles. I'm at the top of the age group and the bottom of the talent, so if I can get out here and fun than anyone can.” Click the following link for more information about the Savannah Adult Baseball League.
